To the field…
Pick up your garden hoe and go.
What will you cultivate?
What will you kill?
Your day’s work…
Will it bear fruit that supports Life… or….
Let the sprout grow to choke so you’ll die?
I discussed fruit growing and the role of a helper in The Family Fortune book.
From my experience in ranching, I know bare dirt generally grows noxious weeds (a plant harmful to man and animal), which a thistle and thorn bush are. However, soil is “dirt transformed” that is able to grow something beneficial for a man… grass, crops, fruit trees, and grape vines—a profitable business product. If the product is produced without accumulating long-term outstanding debt that cannot be paid off (the weeds… the worries and cares of the world), the business becomes more profitable and the doors remain open.
When we believe on and accept Christ’s sacrifice at the cross, we become part of the Family. Now, our role in the Family Business is to help the “dresser and keeper”, the Last Adam, Jesus Christ. The Gardener, God the Father, placed Christ in the garden of our life, as our High Priest, to maintain its “clean soil”—the heart of flesh of the New Covenant. We are the “help-meet” that supports “the word”… “the seed of God”… the Holy Spirit planted in this “clean soil” from which fruit is produced. Chapter 5 The Family Business, The Family Fortune Revised 2nd Edition, p. 38
With this in mind, I’m looking at the following Proverbs—I’ve added commentary and possible cross-reference scripture in brackets. I’m still learning… subject to correction… checkout the scriptures in context to verify for yourself.
I’ve also written while thinking about…
Luke 12 23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.
John 6 26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. 27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. [Isaiah 55:1-7]
So… even though the labor, business, and agriculture principles apply… I understand it more than just about producing physical food and resources to meet our needs and those of others.
An example I can relate to—it’s like deploying, investing, our capital… our time… our breath of life. Will it be capital from a loan… the debt from the natural flesh life of man… his spirit… or… capital that’s debt-free… the Life of Christ… the Holy Spirit? Which capital will you operated with? The type of capital you choose… can you redeem the time with it?
Onto the Proverbs…
Proverbs 24 27 Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field [Work on the heart… keep the weeds out… don’t let them sprout and dig out the ones that do. Luke 8:13-15; 21:33-35 13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.
33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.] ; and afterwards build thine house [Is not a heart flourishing with the Holy Spirit crucial to the Temple of God… the body of the Saint… the Church… being healthy and growing… bearing fruit that supports Life? 1 Corinthians 3 11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.14 If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.15 If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
Matthew 7 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.] . 28 Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips.29 Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work [Are we not to work by guarding our heart… not grieving or quenching the Holy Spirit… by our conduct… what we say? Proverbs 4:20-27; 1 Thessalonians 5:14-23; Ephesians 4:22-32; Ephesians 5; Romans 12:18-20
Does this include being aware… awake… discerning of—false teachers… false prophets… the ecumenical and occultic “we are a god… we create our own world” mentality—all that’s fruit of the Spirit killing idolatry? 2 Corinthians 6 15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.] .30 I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; 31 And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down [If we don’t avoid and warn about the fake… the false, are we being slothful… void of understanding? Will this destroy our wall of protection from the Lord… destroying our garden… our field… leading to poverty? Romans 1:16-32; Jude 3-19; Isaiah 47:8-15; Proverbs 25:28; Isaiah 5:4-6; Zechariah 2:4-5,10-12; Isaiah 26:1-2;60:17-19 Does not true Love… Charity… the Holy Spirit rejoice in… act in… the truth while rejecting what’s false? 1 Corinthians 13:4-7; Ephesians 5:9 In other words… to claim one is practicing, or engaging, the above mentioned falsehood out of love to serve God… is this not an oxymoronic lie in itself?] .32 Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.33 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep [1 Thessalonians 5 4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.] :34 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.
Proverbs 28 18 Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.19 He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread [Mark 4 20 And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.21 And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick? 22 For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.23 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.24 And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.25 For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.
Matthew 25 14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. 20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: 27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.] : but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.20 A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.21 To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress [Philippians 3 18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)] .22 He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him [Matthew 6 22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Just relying on “do-goodism” makes one quickly “feel good”… like they’re doing okay. However, over the long-term, one is left dried-out… depleted… defeated by the sins that continue to dominate and haunt. Also, the “good works” are generally leveraged, through guilt, for selling products… getting donations. The charity Goodwill buildings are in prime locations and way nicer than the mom and pop for-profit retail stores that have to serve customers to stay in business.
One approach uses people to fill their coin-purse—with the other, the customer that is served well will provide the coins to finance continuing and improving service. One is dishonest manipulative theft—the other is business… for-profit capitalism. If conducted well, the latter will provide long-term wealth for the continuing generations in a family business. John 12 5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? 6 This he [Judas] said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
Saved by faith, and then growing in that faith, is a life-time process of bringing forth fruit with patience—the evidence of the destruction of the bondage of sin—being profitable. True freedom is experienced by the continuing faithful… which will outlast the world’s “causes and peace plans”. Ephesians 2:8-10; Galatians 2:15-16; 1 Peter 1:6-8; 2 Peter 3:17-18; Hebrews 12:26-28; Romans 6:14-23].
In the natural, to bear fruit… “profit”… from a “labor of love” is what validates the effort. It’s appreciated by the one who works and the one who receives the benefit of the product of that work—the work is true. Without “profit”, the work becomes random “noise”. It’s profit that provides the resources and feedback (eyes and ears… wisdom) for growth… improvement… innovation. Without “love”, the work becomes a cold-hearted… dehumanized… lifeless… heartless… number or stat.
Love involves a conscience to live as humans created in the image of God, not as animals. Our work benefits people—it’s not “a self-absorbed abusive (of people that is) cause”. Without profit and love, the work and its product will eventually disappear from the marketplace.
It seems to work the same with the Spirit.
John 4 23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
John 15 8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
My job as I go to the field, as a helper who supports the Helper (the Holy Spirit), is to work. And, if I do… I reap… I shall not lack bread.
John 14 1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Matthew 6 19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. 22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Luke 12 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.22 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
Ephesians 5 6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
His job, as the Husbandman, is to work it out.
Ecclesiastes 11 5 As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all. 6 In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good. 7 Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:
Psalm 27 14 Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.
Psalm 31 24 Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.
Isaiah 40 29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: 31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Ephesians 5 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Ephesians 2 19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
1 Peter 2 4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
John 15 1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
Psalm 127 1Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
Isaiah 48 17 Thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the Lord thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.18 O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:
Isaiah 49 7 Thus saith the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the Lord that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee. 8 Thus saith the Lord, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages; 9 That thou mayest say to the prisoners, Go forth; to them that are in darkness, Shew yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures shall be in all high places.10 They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them [Isaiah 61:1-3; Luke 4:17-19]. 11 And I will make all my mountains a way, and my highways shall be exalted. 26 And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the Lord am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.
And… does this sound familiar to what God said to Zerubbabel in regards to the Temple of God?
Haggai 2 4 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the Lord; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the Lord, and work: for I am with you, saith the Lord of hosts:
Zechariah 4 5 Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord.6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.7 Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.
Said another way… fear and trust in God… not man.
Job 13 13 Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what will.14 Wherefore do I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in mine hand? 15 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.16 He also shall be my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him.
Matthew 10 28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Isaiah 51 6 Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.7 Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings.8 For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool: but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation. 11 Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away. 12 I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass; 13 And forgettest the Lord thy maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and hast feared continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? and where is the fury of the oppressor?14 The captive exile hasteneth that he may be loosed, and that he should not die in the pit, nor that his bread should fail.15 But I am the Lord thy God, that divided the sea, whose waves roared: The Lord of hosts is his name.16 And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people.
Hebrews 1 10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:11 They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; 12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
Written to remind and encourage, including myself, to be diligent to look for… root up… toss out… the weed sprouts—if they’re ignored and allowed to grow, they’ll eventually choke out Life from the Vine… Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away.
