The Holy Highway

Motoring out West…

Are you blessed… or are you stressed…

Which highway are you on?

Motoring through life…

Will you try… or will you die…

Which highway are you on?

Route Eight-Eighty-Eight (888)… or Route 66…6…

Choose the highway that’s the best…

Which highway are you on?

It’s not the road to Babylon…

If you want to rest… and don’t want to cry…

If you want roots cool n’ wet… and not torched scorched n’ dry…

Which highway are you on?

I don’t know if… the Holy Highway… mentioned in Isaiah relates exclusively to the New Jerusalem… to the Millennium… or both.  If it’s a description of traveling to the Lamb’s Wife, could the nations be singing…

Pack your bags… throw out your rags…

Turn Out the Lights… there’s no more night…

We’re travelin’ to the gate on Route Eight-Eighty-Eight (888)

Going up to Mount Zion where there’s no more cryin’…

We’re going to the Light… where there’s no more night…

The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose. It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing (ASV)…    Say to those with anxious heart, “Take courage, fear not. Behold, your God will come with vengeance; The recompense of God will come, But He will save you.” Then the eyes of the blind will be opened And the ears of the deaf will be unstopped. Then the lame will leap like a deer, And the tongue of the mute will shout for joy. For waters will break forth in the wilderness And streams in the Arabah [Or desert]. The scorched land will become a pool And the thirsty ground springs of water; In the haunt of jackals, its resting place, Grass becomes reeds and rushes. A highway will be there, a roadway, And it will be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean will not travel on it, But it will be for him who walks that way, And fools will not wander on it. No lion will be there, Nor will any vicious beast go up on it; These will not be found there. But the redeemed will walk there, And the ransomed of the Lord will return And come with joyful shouting to Zion, With everlasting joy upon their heads. They will find gladness and joy, And sorrow and sighing will flee away (NASB) (Isaiah 35:1-10)

How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver! The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul. Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall (Proverbs 16:16-18)

But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the Judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect…    Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe (NASB) (Hebrews 12:22-24, 28)

And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away…    And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life (Revelation 21:2-4, 23-27)

Thus saith the Lord; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the Lord of hosts the holy mountain…    And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbor…  Yea, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the Lord of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the Lord…    that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you (Zechariah 8:3, 16-17, 21-23)

And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord‘s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths…    nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more…    O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the Lord (Isaiah 2:2-5)

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever (Psalm 23)

Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the Lord‘s hand double for all her sins. The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it (Isaiah 40:1-5)

Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them. Sing unto the Lord a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth…    And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them… (Isaiah 42:9-10,16-18)

Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure…    Hearken unto me, ye stouthearted, that are far from righteousness: I bring near my righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not tarry: and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory (Isaiah 46:8-13)?

Today… while the lights are still on… the Saints have the Road Home to travel… Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them; While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened…

Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun: But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity…

I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world…

Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is (Ecclesiastes 12:1-2; 11:7-8; John 9:4-5; Ephesians 5:15-17).

Reminds me of a personal saying… Life works until… it doesn’t.  What’s your plan (Luke 12:19-21)?

The Road Home leads to the realized Kingdom of God… which He will establish in fullness after Christ Jesus, the King of kings, returns for His Bride… the Church.  At which time…the Saints… the Church… will be resurrected to reign with the Lamb of God… the Lion of the Tribe of Judah… in the Millennium leading to God establishing New Heavens… a New Earth… the New Jerusalem—the Lamb’s Wife—Eternity.

This being said…

The Road Home…

It’s narrow with potholes and some rock… when going through the desert, it gets lonely… the wind howls and the shadows seem to talk.  Along the way only a traveler is seen here n’ there… so… when a tire goes flat… one is tempted to swear.  Then, the Holy Spirit jogs the wearied pilgrim’s mind that the burdens they bear… God is gracious to share.  Jesus Christ paid the penalty for our sins at the Cross… if we accept this and trek on… our life won’t be a total loss.

It’s not easy to travel the road to purity… the Holy Highway.  Those that do… stay faithful and true.  They see their “destination”… the New Jerusalem… where sorrow turns to joy… and the night to day strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Then… there’s… “the Road to Rome”… uhhh… “ruin”…

It’s smooth and wide for cruising… where dancers, prancers, and necromancers are wooing.  The drink, weed, pill, and snorted line delight… they cause “tripping”… uhhh… “tricking”… to make the darkness forgotten, that it’s night.  The roadside attractions are “seductively friendly for seekers”… there’s… circle making… spirit slaying… miracle faking… mindless praying… tower raising… tree hugging… world craving… idol carving… money chasing… and… self-appointed “seers and speakers”.  Its travel agent promises if “driven”… “purpose” for world peace will be given.  The indulgences keep “the deceiver” shrouded… so… the road is crowded.

It’s “easy” to travel the road of harlotry… the highway to hell.  Those that do… are blind as a fool.  They don’t see their “destruction”… the Lake of Fire… where pleasure turns to pain… and death is a constant smell… broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat… (Matthew 7:13-15).

Down at the crossroads…

There’s a right or left turn to… the Road Home… or… the Road to Rome… the road to Heaven… or… the road to Hell.  We have a choice to make… let’s make it well.  Story goes Satan has committed theft.  He’s conned some… Blues-stringers… guitar slingers… Rock singers… may have even duped some central bankers… tax collectors… preachers who are bilkers… to make the… left.  I’ve chosen the… right… I hope God has given you like sight… so… that in His peace, we may dwell… let us run with patience the race that is set before us…

A wise man’s heart directs him toward the right, but the foolish man’s heart directs him toward the left (NASB)

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you (Hebrews 12:1-3; Ecclesiastes 10:2; John 14:26-27).

And… if He has… according to the Jimmy Stewart classic… when there’s “redemption”, someone rings a bell.  No… it’s not in the Bible… but, this is… there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth (Luke 15:7-10).

For us… today is what matters on… the Holy Highway (Hebrews 3:12-14).  When we see the destination… reading the road map keeps us from going astray… Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he (Proverbs 29:18).  And… it does… because…

Jesus Christ gives us His Light to see… the Way… before the sky turns grey… and the Saints will go… they’ll no longer have to stay.

Though written with rhyme… it’s a “life and death” subject to think about before we… run out of time.

And…

Before it’s all gone… I’ll ask again… Which highway are you on?
